a swift clattering

fall 2022
54” x 66”
granulated red sandstone
on canvas
I bent the scrap metal slowly using all of my limbs and leveraging my weight to make the flat piece bend to a soft form. I laid the piece on an unstretched canvas, and stood above it crushing red sandstones together to make a dust. This red powder floated and cascaded over the metal into small piles, clean lines, and fuzzy gradients. I rearranged the scrap metal repeating the same motion. I felt the tension in my wrists as I pulverized the rocks, until my palms were imprinted red and tired.
